Ruby's Story

Tiger Theatre is proud to announce Ruby's Story by Ron Osbourne has been selected as the 2012 UIL One Act Play Contest entry. The story centers around the effects of war on one family during World War II.

Auditions will be January 12, with callbacks January 13. Directors will be selecting Traveling Crew (groupies) once school resumes.

A Christmas Carol

A&M Consolidated Tiger Theatre is proud to present A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens on December 8-10, at 7 p.m., and December 11, at 3 p.m.

This Christmas classic about Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmas gets a new, spooky, twist when combined with Dubstep music and Steampunk fashion.

Dubstep is a genre of dance music that originated in London and its overall sound has been described as tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals.

Steampunk is a genre of speculative and science fiction that involves a era where steam power is still widely used, like Victorian England. Steampunk works often feature futuristic innovations, like H.G. Wells' Time Machine, as Victorians may have envisioned them, based on the Victorian perspective of fashion, culture and technology.

Even though the show may have a few new elements, the heart of the play is still Charles Dickens' work.

"We wanted to make the show accessible and interesting to a younger audience that may think of Dickens' work not applicable to them," director Beth Creel said. "However, we never altered the script or Dickens' words."

The cast and crew includes more than 65 students, including junior Kyle Eddens as Ebenezer Scrooge and Ty Thomas as Bob Cratchit. Tickets are available in advance for $5 for students and $8 for adults. All tickets will be $10 at the door.

Advanced tickets can be reserved by emailing the director Beth Creel (ecreel@csisd.org) or the technical director, Michelle Greene (mgreene@csisd.org). CSISD faculty and staff receive one free ticket with their ID.

Tiger Theatre student selected for TETA PlayFrest

Tiger Theatre is proud to announce that junior Alyssa Salazar's play, "Jake Bright" was chosen to be performed at the 2012 Texas Educational Theatre Conference TheatreFest in Houston this January 27-29.

Her play highlights a special relationship between Dessy, a high school student and her best friend, Jake who is autistic. The show will be produced and performed, with public performances planned in late January.

Auditions for A Christmas Carol will be held Wednesday, September 7th in the auditorium. Scene packets are outside of the Theatre Classroom. The sign up sheet will be posted on Tuesday with more information.

We will also be hosting an Improv workshop on Friday, September 9th from 4-5:30 in the blackbox. You will be able to learn and practice the games used in the audition. WIT alum Haley Johnson will be assisting the workshop to give first hand accounts on the greatness that is WIT.

WIT Auditions will be Monday, September 12th from 4-6 in the blackbox.

Congratulations to the Warped Improv Troupe for winning this year's WIT vs. FIT challenge.

The challengers, the Faculty Improv Troupe, were close behind in scoring, but the students finished strong, winning for the third year in a row.

The evening was not only for glory, but for a good cause. Over $300 will be donated to Carpool, a local organization that provides a safe ride home for drunk drivers.

On Friday, the WIT troupe will battle against the Faculty Improv Troupe (FIT) to raise money for local charities. Come see the Students school the Teachers!

If you are a fan of Whose Line Is It Anyway or Wild N Out, then WIT is right up your
alley. Games featured will be Poet's Corner, Clue, Good Cop/Bad Cop and of course, Party Quirks.

Auditions for the 2011-2012 Theatre Production class will be held on May 17, 2011 in the Black Box Theatre. Please prepare a one minute monologue from any Pulitzer prize winning play. Scripts are available in Mrs. Creel's classroom and from the local library.

Interviews will be held immediately after each audition.

Current and prospective students are required to audition. Only students enrolled in the Production class will be considered for the 2012 UIL One Act Play.

On Wednesday, Tiger Theatre performed A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Area 2, Region II UIL One Act Play Contest held at Rouse High School in Leander, TX. By competing at this level, A&M Consolidated High School becomes part of the top 25% of 5A theatre programs. A final performance is being planned to showcase this fantastic show.

Midsummer Advances to Area!

For the second year in a row, Tiger Theatre has advanced to the UIL One Act Play Area level contest. At this point, Tiger Theatre is in the top 64 schools that compete on the 5A level. This is the third time in 20 years that Consolidated has advanced to this level. Area contest will be this Wednesday at Rouse High School in Leander.

I'd like to send a shout out to the cast and crew of Still Life. Your hard work and awesome attitude made this show a huge success! I am so proud of what we have done, and it was because of the work each of you put into the production.

For the first time in a show, I am sad to see it end. We worked so hard to make this show real and true to us, that now that its over, the world is a little less magical. Nocturno never dies!

Tiger Theatre proudly presents their first show of the fall season. ‘Still Life with Iris’ is an award winning play by Stephen Dietz. The story follows a young girl, Iris, who lives in the magical world of Nocturno—a place where all you see during the day is made at night. Iris is kidnapped and forced to become the adoptive child of the Evil Great Goods. In her quest to find her way back home, Iris meets the infamous Annabel Lee (of Edgar Allen fame) and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Still Life with Iris runs Thursday, October 14 through Saturday, October 16th at 7PM in the AMCHS Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults.

Based on the works of Dr. Seuss with a book and score by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, this is a delightful musical about loyalty and friendship. Perfect for children ages 5 to 500. The cast, crew and orchestra are composed of theatre, choir, art, band and orchestra students. They are truly spectacular and really showcase the talent that A&M Consolidated's Fine Arts programs have to offer.

Seussical the musical takes classic Dr. Seuss stories, including The Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, Horton Hatches the Egg, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Gertrude McFuzz, and McElligot's Pool among others!

The Dracula Experiment

Okay, so that is the official word, now the unofficial word, the production is not your mother's Dracula and it ain't twilight, thanks you Bram Stoker!
This is an experiment in how we think about good and evil, the script, besides using Stoker's words, also uses words from Lord Byron, T.S. Eliot, Pink Floyd and others. It is hoped that this production will give the audience a night's worth of entertainment but also will give them something to think about. This production has been an artistic challenge for the company as well as for the directors, and, art is not art unless it is a challenge and forces us to view the world in different ways, all of which we hope this production does. This production is not recommended for children under the age of thirteen. And always remember that blood calls to blood.

Tiger Theatre's first fall show of the season, Jungalbook by Edward Mast, opens this week! It is a modern adaption of Rudyard Kilpling's famous novel. The show's title is misspelled intentionally as a nod to the phonetic spelling used by Kipling.

Guys, its getting close! Next week!

As far as tech, we are good to go. Costumes are done! Greene and I took it to the Ross Dress for Less and Charlotte Russe. You guys, it will look so good. Even the salesgirl wanted to see the show after helping us find costumes. Lights will be done soon, so no worries. The bridge will be put up on Wednesday, which is exciting. Gone are the days when we are pretending to walk the invisible bridge.

This next week will be what makes our show go from good to awesome. We will learn the fight dance, which is going to be out of this world. Adrienne is so talented that I know it will look great. Once we know the fight, we will run the show, from top to bottom. I really want to make sure the show has a good rhythm and flow, and there are no glaring inconsistencies.

Make sure you guys start promoting the show. I have yet to see a Jungalbook poster in the community. Whoever posts the first poster that I see will get a super-awesome-out-of-this-world-prize!
